FLINDERS LEGAL CENTRE

Flinders Legal Centre is operated by Flinders University – College of Business, Government and Law.

The Flinders Legal Centre provides a variety of legal services to the community.  The services available vary from year to year.  The Centre operates a number of free legal advice clinics.

PLEASE NOTE:

All our clinics are closed for some period during the end of year university break.

The Cooinda clinic closes for appointments in mid-November and will re-open in February 2020.

The Campus clinic closes for appointments in mid-November and will re-open in March 2020.

The Small Business clinic closes for appointments in early November This clinic plans to reopen in March 2020 subject to funding.

Emails and voicemail messages will be monitored on a weekly basis during the November and January and will be responded to at the earliest opportunity.

When our clinics are open we can provide assistance in many areas of law however we do not provide advice in relation to all areas of law.

Flinders’ Legal Advice Clinics can provide legal advice in relation to matters where the financial amount in dispute is not more than $12,000.

If you are involved in a dispute we can help you with:

  • Options for resolving your dispute;
  • Things you might have to do before lodging a claim  with the Court;
  • Preparing court documents;
  • Explaining Court procedures;
  • Referring you to other relevant agencies; or
  • Managing your own claim.

We do not:

  • Take over management of your claim for you; or
  • Act as your lawyer or represent you in Court.

Our Clinics are a free service.  You do not need to pay for appointments with us.  We do not pay any costs associated with litigation or other processes.  This means that you must pay for any of your own costs, including Court filing fees and costs of obtaining evidence or preparing for hearing.

All information that you provide to our Clinic is treated as confidential.

The Clinics operates on different days with interviews taking place at three venues in 2019.  All appointments can be booked through this website.

  • Cooinda clinic:
    This clinic runs on a Thursday morning in the Cooinda Neighbourhood  Centre located at 245 Sturt Road, Sturt (behind the Marion City Council Chambers) where there is ample parking.  Various Metro buses also service the venue.  Bus stop 29D on Sturt Road provides easy access.
    This clinic can be accessed by any member of the public with preference given to residents from within the City of Marion Council area.
  • Campus clinic:
    This clinic runs on a Wednesday morning with appointments held in the Flinders University Student Association is located on Level 1 of the Student Hub, Bedford Park campus.  The Student Hub building is located next to the Registry and the Plaza (Reference J10 on the Campus Map).
    This clinic is provided for Flinders University students who are given preference for appointment.  Members of the public may also access it subject to availability.
  • Small Business clinic:
    This clinic runs on a Tuesday morning at Flinders University, Tonsley campus. The Flinders University, Tonsley clinic is located on Level 2 of the Flinders University building adjacent to the MAB, off the Tonsley Boulevard.
    This clinic is provided for Flinders University students who are given preference for appointment.  This includes students involved in any Flinders University related course of study.  Members of the public may also access it subject to availability.

Appointments take 45 minutes.  You can make more than one appointment if you need to.  You can make an appointment using our online booking calendar, or alternatively:

  • for the Cooinda clinic you may ask the Cooinda Neighbourhood Centre staff to make an appointment for you;
  • for any clinic you can request an appointment by sending us an email (see address below).
